The Mesopotamian Dragons

Who Are the Mesopotamian Dragons?

B

efore the great drought on Old Earth, the dragon community lived among humans. Humans referred to them as ‘giants’ because of their height and strength and welcomed their presence. They formed their own communities within the cities or villages they inhabited. Culturally, they differed slightly from Mesopotamian humans in which they followed a matriarchal society. Like the other dragon tribes, their community had two groups, the common folk who had no magical power, and alpha dragons who could wield magic. The leaders of the community were omega dragons who valued balance and harmony.

Where Did They Live?

T

he Mesopotamian Dragons were from Mesopotamia and the surrounding regions. They actively contributed to the societies development in arts, writing, time, and technology.

When Did They Arrive?

T

he Mesopotamian Dragons arrived at the same time as the other tribes of dragons. The head of their tribe was called Queen Ningal, and she had two alpha husbands called Dumuzi and Anu. Upon arriving in the New Realm through corrupted magic, Queen Ningal burned alive in a gulf of flames, as she catapulted through the skies of the New Realm. Her husbands who flew beside her, landed dead, leaving a trail of debris and chaos in their wake. As their legacies came to a sudden and devastating halt, the rest of the giants fell from the skies. Some folk were alphas and had transformed into their dragon form when the magic threw them into the New Realm. They took control of the air around them as they fell and swooped in to grab the common folk who were flailing in the air as they fell. Because of their lack of magical abilities, many common folk plummeted to their deaths. The devastation was horrific. The magic hurtled folk throughout the continent and lands of the New Realm. To this day, they still find remains of commoners in positions of how they landed, broken heaps of skeletons and carnage. Sometimes they find carcasses with bones showing teeth marks of wild animals or skeletons of babies still being clutched in mother's arms. The alpha dragons did what they could to save the commoners by catching them in the fall, but most of the commoners died horrifically. Some commoners survived the tragedy, but many did not and this mistake has become the source of conflict in society.

How Did The Culture Evolve?

T

he Mesopotamian Dragons quickly established structure within the surviving groups. Most of the Mesopotamian dragons landed in the region that is now called Uruk. They made use of their knowledge from Mesopotamia and created standards for days and time. They developed technologies and communication methods to aid the people's survival and success.

The Mesopotamian Dragons developed the Unified Religion. However, there were many conflicts regarding the change in the social structure. Many of the Alpha Dragons wanted to seize control over the omegas to protect society. Yet, there were others who objected. However, the countless deaths of commoners on the trip to the New Realm were impossible to ignore, and in the end, they established a patriarchal society.

Who Are They Now?

A

s time went on, the Mesopotamian Dragons expanded in trading and profited from the new social structure. It didn’t take long for them to forget the struggles of the omegas and their society thrived. Uruk became the capitol of the New Realm and the Unified Religion now has a strong foothold within their society. Sometimes rebels emerge and fight for omega rights, but authorities quickly eliminate them and restore order. The elite leaders of Uruk society have worked hard in establishing a flourishing society and do not wish to change anything. The folk are content and trade is booming.

I love the image of a massive dragon graveyard. I'm sure it would give terrible vibes for any who visit, especially if they know what happened.

Kriltch, arcanities not included.
