Raven

Basic Information

Ecology and Habitats

Ravens have a wide range of habits that they can live in. The only places they refuse to live in are the glacier and rainforest areas.

Dietary Needs and Habits

Ravens are omnivores, but depending on the flock, they may eat more plant matter or animal matter.

Additional Information

Social Structure

Raven flocks that have partnered with another species, typically copy their hierarchy. Elk paired flocks will have a Flock boss. Wolf pack ravens will have an alpha pair, the parents of a flock. Bear paired ravens live alone or in small groups of 2 to 3.

Uses, Products & Exploitation

Raven flocks that have partnered with a different species will exchange food, protection, and free rides and provide a messaging system, espionage, and intel on herds or predators in return.

The Yggdrasil Pack uses them for sending messages to other packs and other ally species such as bears and horses.

Average Intelligence

Ravens are the smartest species of bird known to the Vale. Because of this, they have been known to offer partnerships with other animal species that benefit both parties. Their favorite animals to pair with are wolvesbears, elk, raccoons, and horses.

Symbiotic and Parasitic organisms

Ravens are known throughout the Vale as a beneficial species to be partnered with. Raven flocks vary depending on the species of animal they have paired with. They prefer social animals as they themselves are very social.

Civilization and Culture

Naming Traditions

Raven's are given Ghoul names by their parents once they reach maturity and are able to leave the nest.
There appears to be no rhyme or reason to the name of ravens.

Ravens that pair with herbivores, especially herd animals, have two-word names such as Doombasher, Deadstrike, Cliffeye.

Ravens paired with carnivores have guttural sounding names such as Garaux, Khod, Vankog.

Common Taboos

If a raven switches from pairing with a predator to pairing with a prey animal or vice versa, they are considered untrustworthy. They are shamed from both sides of ravens and will often have to find a solitary creature to pair with.
