Fafnir Son of Hreithmar
In the realm of [Svartalfheim], there lived a dwarf prince named Fafnir, son of the skilled artisan dwarf king [Hreidmar]. Fafnir and his two brothers, [Regin] and Otr, were cunning and talented in the ways of crafting and smithing. Their father's domain thrived under their craftsmanship, and they lived in contentment for a time.
However, fate took a dark turn when a cursed horde of treasure entered their lives. The treasure, was stolen from a dwarven spirt [Andvari], by the Trickster God [Loki], who placed a dreadful curse upon it. The horde's presence brought misfortune and greed into the hearts of those who possessed it. As Hreidmar's power grew, so did his lust for wealth. Loki, hoping to weaken the Dwarven realm, gift the cursed gold in exchange for the ability to turn himself into a fish- which he later used to flee from the [Aesir's] wrath
When Loki brought the treasure to Hreidmar, it was accompanied an enchanted sword, later named Wrathclever. The sight of such riches stirred envy and greed within Fafnir and Regin, who plotted to seize the treasure for themselves. Tragically, this led to a series of betrayals and conflicts that resulted in Fafnir killing his father to claim the horde.
Fueled by the curse of the gold, Fafnir's heart darkened further, and he transformed into a monstrous dragon, guarding his newfound wealth in a desolate lair deep within the wilderness of Svartalfheim. His once-loyal brother, Regin, now harbored hatred and resentment, obsessed with reclaiming the treasure that he believed rightfully belonged to him.
As fate would have it, a young human Barbarian named [Sigfried], known for his strength, fearlessness, and heroism, crossed paths with Regin while traveling the Realms. The cunning dwarf sought to manipulate Sigfried into becoming the instrument of his vengeance against Fafnir. Regin convinced Sigfried to slay the dragon and reclaim the treasure, promising him a portion of the hoard as a reward.
Undeterred by the challenge that lay ahead, Sigfried embarked on a treacherous journey to confront the fearsome dragon. Armed with a legendary sword that he had reforged from the pieces of the shattered enchanted sword, Wrathclever, Sigfried faced Fafnir in an epic battle of steel and magic.
The clash between the human hero and the monstrous dwarf dragon was fierce, and for a time, it seemed as if Fafnir's overwhelming strength would triumph. Yet, Sigfried's valor and determination prevailed, and with a mighty thrust, he struck down the monstrous beast, vanquishing Fafnir and claiming the cursed hoard for himself.
The tale of Fafnir serves more as a cautionary tale of legend and reminder of the destructive forces that greed and envy can unleash upon even the mightiest of beings. But there are some that believe that Fafnir's tale may be more than legend...
