Warder Thirteen

Warder Thirteen

Under his full name, Warder Thirteen of the 43rd Clade in the Second topwise segment, was part of the military caste of the Mothership, an interstellar world-ship that hosted many of the Sadar race and its component Castes. As a Warder, Thirteen was bred and telepathically conditioned since birth to serve as frontline military, defending the ship from the many perils of space. When the Mothership was torn asunder by an otherwordly peril, a "living black hole" as Warder heard it described by one of the high-caste Mentals, the survivors made their way to escape pods.   Warder escaped but woke up after he crash landed on an unknown planet, inhabited by strange warlike pink bipeds, living among the ruins of one or perhaps many pasts. He has no knowledge of his race, his world and works as hired muscle for those he considers "worthy" according to his complex and often contradictory code of ethics.

Physical Description

General Physical Condition

Warder is quite literally built like a bull, with his thick body jam packed with thick muscles, designed to function in a higher gravity than that of this world's. He somewhat resembles a humanoid bull-lizard hybrid with an elongated skull.

Body Features

2.2 meters tall, with thick shoulders, recurved legs and powerful yet agile arms Warder is a powerhouse. His skull is large, well protected and thick to protect an incredibly complex brain-like organ that also has roles in nutrient synthesis. Warder's caste-form and, indeed his entire species has no fat equivalent, storing energy in mitochondria-equivalents in the blood-substitute itself. Warder needs to eat significantly more than a human each day and seems to have no limit to the amount of food he can consume or indeed the quality.

Facial Features

Warder has a thick skull, tapering off to a smallish face, with small but very sharp eyes that can barely see colour but see better in low light and are designed to follow motion. He has two rows of flat teets growing at any time, with the second row replacing the first in time. He has a large snout, ending in a large, bovine nose that is very fine with some scents but cannot identify others. He has a long, slightly prehensile forked tongue.

Identifying Characteristics

Warder is big, green and mean. His body never scars, instead wounds sealing neatly regardless of past severity. When "sealing" (what he calls healing) his wounds are very warm to the touch

Physical quirks

Warder can move his eyes independently in separate directions and tends to lick food before chewing it "to taste it".

Special abilities

As a member of a less refined caste of his species Warder mostly relies on his vocabulator apparatus, and has limited, almost non-existent telepathic abilities. However, his cerebrum is the same as that of a higher caste member. This is a design feature, ensuring that valued members be able to advance caste or be repurposed according to the Mothership's needs. This adaptability has allowed him to develop new skills, better suited for his new life on earth.

Apparel & Accessories

Warder has no outwards sexual or excretory organs. At time he emmits a stream of nearly pure electrolyte liquid from the base of his skull, both to cool his body and shed excess water. He occasionally opens up his abdomen and excretes a rock-hard solid mass of aggregate fibers and other materials (bone, hair) that he cannot digest. This has next to no smell and is completely dehydrated and unpleasantly warm to the touch after excretion.

Specialized Equipment

Warder is a frontline combatant designed for rapid reaction in behemoth armor. Even decked in less glamorous gear he is at his best among enemy combatants, highly reactive and highly mobile.

Mental characteristics

Personal history

Born in the spawning vats of the Mothership, Warder was telepathically conditioned since birth to be a part of the military or Warder caste among his extended clade. He was schooled in the Lower Mysteries of Caste Escathoethics, tactics and weapon use and conditioned to be resistant to mental influence. He served as brawlguard and gunner and in time rose to the position of Shae-bound battlecaller for his War-clade.   Warder escaped the doom of hte Mothership alongside his Shae-companion but was unbound from it after crash-landing on this planet. He scours the land in search of it or its remains.   After his crash, for almost a decade and a half in standard time Warder has kept the faith as he searches for his Shae and others like him. He has traveled quite a bit and worked as bounty hunter, guard or criminal.

Sexuality

Warder has no concept of sexuality or gender. He is attracted to and forms "bonds" with others that he approximates as "Mentals" and follows their commands and advice but he has no real feelings of attraction in the physical sense.
The closest thing to an actual relationship in the human sense is Warder's connection to his Shae, which is missing, presumed lost.

Employment

Warder works as hired muscWarle for Om the Osbergian, a mutant Numenera broker in town. When the merchant wants to send an "ineffecient message" (i.e. a violent one) he sends Warder to act on his behalf.

Accomplishments & Achievements

The caste system of the Mothership could have been described as a limited meritocracy, where some of the members get to advance in rank and, occasionally, even in caste. Warder has had a successful career within the ranks rising to a position of Shae-bound battlecaller, the highest for his caste.

Failures & Embarrassments

Warder Thirteen's greatest failure is the failure of all Warders and all members of his race - the destruction of Mothership. He feels the pain of hte ship being destroyed as a sort of physical pain, like an old wound or scar. Even worse is the losing of his Shae, something he feels like a sort of niggling, ever present need, like being constantly hungry.

Mental Trauma

Warder Thirteen's mind is not designed with anything resembling trauma remorse or the like in mind. Instead he is angry and feels a sense of loss at what has happened to him.

Intellectual Characteristics

Warder is not especially bright but is very strong willed, to the point of single mindedness. His general disposition is not towards violence as much as towards defense of others which he considers, according to his complex and oft contradictory moral code as having been neglected or abused. Despite the rigors of the Mothership caste system his entire race has a biological sense of justice and injustice.

Morality & Philosophy

Warder's philosophy comes from being schooled in the Lower Mysteries of Caste Escathoethics, a rigid yet regimented system of philosophy binding importance in life and experience to physical form, caste and performance. The system of value pursues an end goal, an "end state of history" in which all worthies will have become "Mentals", the Sadar's closest equivalent to a ruling caste.

Taboos

Despite occasionally threatening people with eating, Warder has a strong taboo against consuming the flesh of intelligent creatures.

Personality Characteristics

Motivation

Warder's main goal is to find his Shae and any other members of his race, preferably a Mental.   Until then, Warders are conditioned to serve a higher agent so he wants and needs to find a "Mental" to follow.

Savvies & Ineptitudes

Warder often quotes the scriptures of his system of belief.
He is incapable of understanding higher concepts of science and "arcana" as "He is no Mental".

Likes & Dislikes

Warder Likes Doomba fruit and salty food.   He dislikes what he perceives as injustice, which can vary grossly - for instance he does not see slavery as inherently unjust, considering it " a caste thing" but he has violently reacted several times to slaves being mistreated or forced to work harder than Warder sees fit.

Virtues & Personality perks

Warder is strong and powerfully loyal.   He is incredibly stubborn and resistant to hostile influences.   He has a genetic need to follow those he sees as "mentals".

Vices & Personality flaws

Warder can be loud and brash and bredto be impulsive..   Warder is unpredictable - his system of values is inconsistent.   He is incredibly stubborn.

Personality Quirks

Warder often licks his food. He tends to stay eerily still when not engaged, almost like an automaton. People find him eerie.

Hygiene

Warder emits no odours and is known to use talcum on his skin.

Social

Contacts & Relations

Om the Osbergian.
  Deylana's character.

Family Ties

Warder has a Shae-pair somewhere in the world.

Religious Views

Warder is not spiritual, other than in the sense of the precepts of caste Escatho-ethicd

Social Aptitude

Warder is off-putting to many as a quite literal alien. He has no social graces preferring to threaten his way into places.

Mannerisms

Warder is creepily still in public and has a nasty habit of emitting streams of his electrolyte solution at the worst time.

Hobbies & Pets

Warder likes playing marbles and sharpening weapons.   He adores eating.   The closest thing to a pet is his missing Shae.

Speech

Warder speaks decent Truth for a new transplant but he does it with a weird cadence, often breaking down a sentence.

Wealth & Financial state

Warder is oft paid in board, so he has few shins to his name

His Entire Life the Warder served the Mothership as it jaunted from star to star. His entire life the Warder followed the way, as dictated to the Mentals by the Ship. Then in a day of woe the ship was no more, and Warder fell to a new world, alone.
