Sutbourne Isle

Located in the southernmost reaches of the Nordhavyn Isles is the large island of Sutbourne. Of all the areas, it is the most inhospitable and desolate. Hard volcanic rock or pumice sand make up the vast majority of this island save for two rivers. The southernmost river is putrid and poisonous from picking up whatever chemicals have covered the region for who knows how long. The northernmost river though does support some life near its shores as it flows from the mountains inland to the Desolate Bay.   The mountains are black and jagged beyond belief. They appear as notched axes and swords against the sky and so far no one has dared to scout very far past the river. The shoreline is just as jagged as the mountains leaving no natural harbor except at the mouth of the Blue River. This river is wide enough and deep enough to allow the ocean vessels entrance into it as well as offering a protective alcove to anchor in. This is where the town of Sutbourne was established.   The town should not exist in its own right. No crops can be grown or animals raised here and all food, save what is harvested from the sea, must be imported. That is a small price though in order to be able to harvest and treat the Dalar Plant. The city was originally a small outpost before growing in size. It now holds thousands of people who regularly make treks or support treks up along the river to sow, harvest and protect this plant. No other resource has been found. Dwarves have tried to mine the hills but they are not suited for any kind of mining. The humans have tried to work the soil so anything edible can grow but that also failed. As long as the plant can be found, the island will attract people. Otherwise, they have no reason to return.
