The Zealots
Furious with the decadence and failures of the Grand Kingdom, Dolak Varshim, a charismatic cousin of the king, claimed much of the lands on the Western side of Deep Bay as his own in order to continue the mission of preparations for when the destruction returns. Due to his popularity among the people and their belief in the cause, this coup was accepted and embraced by the people wholeheartedly. The term zealots was used so often by those in the Grand Kingdom that eventually it stuck and just became the name of that group. The Grand Kingdom desires to force them to be part of the kingdom again, but knows it is in no position to force it.
Since their breakaway, they have wholly devoted themselves to the preparations needed for coming destruction. Not only are they well provisioned for a long siege, they have ample supplies of weapons and armor. Compulsory training happens for both men and women with the understanding that they may be called into service any day. Funds have also been allocated to the building of a wall and outpost in the natural chokepoint of Zealot's Way. A modest fleet has been amassed in case evacuation is necessary. Some explorers have recently begun to scout out some of the islands further to the West as possible waypoints if needed.
With the focus and attention directed to the hardships to come, most of the kingdom is modest at best. Homes are small and unadorned. Places of government are mainly covered areas or tents with some of the more centralized organizations having cramped and uncomfortable arrangements. Defense works, on the other hand, are strong and formidable.
