Following his conquest of Barovia, Strahd von Zarovich settled down in the valley. To accommodate someone of his standing, he set out and gathered many a great man to build his castle Ravenloft upon the remains of another. It stands in a defensible position, situated high above the valley on a pillarstone of granite rising straight up hundreds of feet. A single drawbridge allows access to the castle, only lowering on Strahd's command.
The castle consists of thick outer walls with a height of 90 feet, laid out in a square and with towers 140 feet high at each corner. The main castle stands in the middle of the courtyard. Two towers rise far above the wall, one rising up to 260 feet, whereas the other reaches 360 feet. A soft, crimson glow can be seen at night from the highest tower. It is rumored that catacombs lie deep below the castle.
