Session 8: Curse your sudden yet inevitable betrayal
General Summary
Today, gravity has prevailed where swords could not.
Don't put holes in dungeons. :(
Our Adventuring Party, still distraught over the loss of Meepo, continues their negotiations with Durnn the Warchief as they're trying to drag Calcryx back to the kobolds. They're kind of pressured into letting the goblins be, and they're send Grenl to keep an eye on them. Grenl in turn pressures them to instead kill the hobgoblins who have taken over their tribe. Should they not agree, then he'll simply scream about Calcryx. The poor shaman just wants his tribe to be free once more, with all the apples to sell for herself.
The party, in all their wisdom, decide that it's probably better to not have the remaining half a tribe of goblins behind them under the control of not-very-friendly hobgoblins. As such, sudden yet inevitable betrayal is the choice. First, however, Calcryx is brought back. Though deeply saddened by the death of no-longer-worthless Meepo, Yusdrayl is overjoyed at having his dragon back, solidifying his position once again and renewing morale. They also pick a key as a reward. It's in a very dragon-y shape. I wonder what it is for.
Back they go to the goblins, into the throne room, where Grenl is quick to declare his sudden yet inevitable betrayal. Alas, the only one the betrayal is not very succesful for is Grenl herself, who is the only casualty on the adventurer's side of things. You see, the mistake here was having a big, deep hole in the middle, and despite the small wall and the easily reachable vines running all the way down, hobs are not very good at these things. One hobgoblin immediately goes insane upon Bear channeling some knowledge to it, jumping down the pit voluntarily. One has its throat slit by some goblins seeing their chance. The other two get kicked down into the pit, completely fail their multiple saves, and clash down with a soft splatter. One of the bushes tries to stab one of the adventurers before climbing down the pit, but it doesn't get far either. The real battle then begins, as they try to open up an iron chest. It proves difficult, so they too throw it down the pit before following.
The pit ends in a large room illuminated by glowing fungus. There's some bushes as well as skeletons tending to the bushes that don't seem to care about the adventurers. As such, they are ignored in turn, as there is loot to be collected. The hobs are stripped clean, and who would've guessed, they also find a key to a chest. There's gold and gems in the chest. They split it up and discuss a payment and income plan for each of them for a good few minutes. Oda pipes in from not even in the session that gold has no worth. They decide to just split it evenly and deal with the math later. Someone walks past one of the bushes. It attacks him. The skeletons attack him. More bushes are angry now. They fight for a bit. They disturb a bugbear hunter with an unfortunate name. More fighting, but they end up victorious though battered.
It is here that we end the session, in a dank and rank cave lit by glowing fungus, tiredness slowly setting as the day progresses and our heroes delve deeper into the dungeon.
