Gorles
Gorles is one of the first of the Allied Isles' Water Seekers, but does not make his home on Eddy's Island. He and Lysiddea take a sporadically active interest in events in the Ocean at large.
Mental characteristics
Personal history
As the oldest water handler of his generation, Gorles was prepared from a young age to succeed Zimmira as Vitgrud's Dancinglight. The day his fivespan's Trial of Life ended was the same day Alcendis Varen came to Ralcondray. Although Zimmira vehemently rejected the offer of further water training, Gorles was intrigued enough to sneak away and follow Alcendis back to her ship. He spent the next two and a half years at the Eddy as a proto-Seeker. As a Water Seeker, he joined Lysiddea in traveling the Ocean, applying their skills where they are needed.
Several years later, Gorles returned to Ralcondray himself to re-open negotiations on connecting the colony with the Cluster Islands.

Education
Employment
Gorles and Lysiddea are self-employed in smallcargo shipping.
Failures & Embarrassments
Having grown up in a community with limited resources, Gorles is unfamiliar and uncomfortable with modern Middle Isles technology. He has learned what he must in order to pilot their boat, but otherwise leaves complicated equipment for Lysiddea to handle.
Social
Family Ties
Gorles is bonded to Lysiddea, through whom he has fathered two children. His parents, siblings, and other extended family members remain primarily on Ralcondray, although his father's sister Zimmira has spent time at the Eddy and is trying hard to convince the other water handlers in the family to do the same.
Mannerisms
Gorles is suprisingly eloquent with his shoulders, using various nuances of shrug to express puzzlement, acquiescence, uncertainty, dismissal, etc.
Hobbies & Pets
Like most freesailors, Gorles and Lysiddea encourage seabirds to rest on their boat. During a Gap-crossing voyage, watching a resident bird's behavior helps gauge their proximity to land. They do not claim any particular bird as their own, but recognize several as frequent passengers.
Wealth & Financial state
As smallcargo haulers who do not claim a landside residence, Gorles and Lysiddea have very little income, but also very little expenditure. Their business usually operates at a small loss, but because they have that business, they are less dependent on the Eddy's subsidy than most other water seekers.
