Justice Nkeba Rruend
Of Zaiyevi parentage, Nkeba was adopted into the Rruend clan and considers Eihlari his home. He succeeded Alcendis Varenonde as Dancinglight.

Personal history
Nkeba's parents found him by chance near the Rruend clan's retreat home, on the last day of their annual visit there. Davili invoked the legal principle of first finder's claim, although that is usually applied to inanimate objects, and the couple took him home and absorbed him into the family. He grew up knowing his origins were obscure, but no one knew how obscure until his grandmother and clan Warden Elan Rruend realized he reacted to meditation as a Water Seeker would. Nkeba spent the next two years on Eddy's Island as a member of the first class of protos. Upon his return to Eihlari, he encountered Ve and learned the truth of his identity.
Sexuality
Nkeba is strongly repulsed by the idea of physical intimacy, which has caused him a great deal of difficulty in the Eihlarian culture that expects men to marry and become fathers.
Education
Nkeba received the standard Eihlari education: general learning until the age of twelve, two years of aptitude discernment, two years of field immersion. His chosen subject, chemistry, proved to be a poor fit and added to the anxieties presented by the coming end of his formal schooling.
Employment
Nkeba intended to become an environmental chemist, but increasingly doubted that choice. His recruitment to the Eddy provided a crucial two-year delay to his career choice; upon returning and meeting Ve, he instead entered a judge apprenticeship. He received his sashes at the age of twenty, spent two years as a tertiary judge, and sat as a deciding judge for thirteen years. He became Dancinglight when Sage Varenonde retired and still holds that post.

Although adopted, Nkeba is considered a full member of Rruend clan core. His strongest relationships have been with his older brother Thuvei and his grandmother. He never has had and never will have any romantic relationships. Ve is his constant companion and bodyguard.
