Llyr, God of Sea and Sky

(formerly) King of the Gods, Skyfather, Lord of the Seas, Father of Mortals
Son of the giants Oceanus and Tethys, Llyr is chief amongst the gods of mortals. He is father to Helith, Valend, and Yrsa, and brother to Svarog. Although Tethys was his mother, she is now also his wife, albeit in an apparently different incarnation. This is just one instance where the strange logic of the gods doesn’t always make sense to the mortals who worship them.
Llyr is the king of the gods, lord of the sky and the sea. He led the rebellion against the Giants, and he has adopted mortals as his children. He is the maker and arbiter of laws, the tutor of druids in the ways of language and magic, and most powerful amongst the pantheon of mortal gods… or he was. Since The Long Night, Llyr has been silent, unreachable by priests and oracles. Many believe him dead, and suggest that it was his death that caused the disaster that brought tempests and strife to the world.
He had always been a mercurial deity. Regardless of the offerings that had been made, he could choose to help or to hinder those who sought his blessing. His mood alone would be enough to influence the weather and the seas. Despite this unpredictability, he remained patron of sailors, fishermen, traders, and kings. He was god of the waves and the winds which carried mortals’ ships far and wide - as a result, his priests were influential and often very wealthy. The one thing which Llyr could never do, however, is to command or cast flames - that power was jealously kept from him by his brother Svarog.
Llyr appeared as a bearded, white-haired older man, but still physically powerful. He owned more treasures than any mortal could imagine, and could draw any object or weapon from his treasury at a moment’s notice, by simply plunging his hand into the ocean and calling the item forth. Though he hoarded treasures, he could also be generous. Llyr held an annual celebration for all the gods of the pantheon, where they would feast on enchanted swine which regenerated and were reborn from their bones to become new again after being consumed. It was at these feasts that Llyr doled out the magical apples and mead which enhanced the gods’ immortality and divine powers. There are many tales of mortals and other creatures attempting to steal these magical delights, or the countless treasures from his vault.
Despite all this, Llyr never seemed to be satisfied. He was often unhappy with his lot, and chafed against his responsibilities. His displeasure could be heard in the moaning of the waters, and the actions of the tides. Dark moods sometimes saw him abandon his responsibilities for a time to travel in disguise and enjoy more simple pleasures. During these times, he seduced countless mortals, and their offspring and descendants were said to go on to become legendary figures themselves. The Archdruid Gwydion is said by some to be one of Llyr’s children and does nothing to dissuade that belief.
