Gore Speak

The flesh slapping language of Gib

DESCRIPTION

Gore Speak is the language spoken (or more accurately: squelched) by the Gib. Since most Gib either do not have mouths or their mouths are in such a disassembled state they no longer function, they must produce their audible language in a differing fashion. Gore Speak is "spoken" by Gib rubbing, smashing and slapping their gore together in various specific ways to create the sound effects that make up the words of their language. This often results in a strange dance of sorts as Gib speak as they must find the parts in themselves to smack to produce the right word with some words requiring so much force to make they can even be damaging. Some of the Gib Warlords pummel an underling instead of themselves to speak in Gore Speak, though in Gib culture this is often viewed as decadent to the point of repulsion.

STRUCTURE

Since speaking in Gore Speak can often be damaging, conversational exchanges are mostly short and efficient, especially if the participants are expecting battle. It is a relatively common tactic to try and provoke an opponent into drawn out discussion so they might damage themselves enough in speaking to give the provoker an advantage in the battle to come (this might come in the form of an accusation that the opponent has to explain away before being supported in battle by their troops). If a Gib has obtained a gore piece that has a mouth they can speak in Common Nipik or, if that mouth is an animal mouth, Animal Talk, but this is referred to as "meat speak"  and is looked down on in common Gib culture. Even having a mouth gore piece makes a Gib a likely target of jest but to other Nipik races this is often taken as a sign that this Gib more likely to interact peacefully. Gib poetry is considered to be at its most profound when it is delivered in the form of blows inflicted in battle. This is because it requires incredible battle prowess and situational control to make sure that each blow inflicted is in the exact manner and type that corresponds to next word in the poem. Those considered to be the greatest Gib poets are those who not only inflict blows in poetic order but only allow themselves to receive a blow in moments where the sound of the blow continues the poem.

INSPIRATION

Inspiration for Gore Speak comes from the various sound effects that accompany violence in videogames, both exaggerated and mundane.
