The Adeptus Mechanicus (also known as the Cult Mechanicus or Cult of the Machine) is the techno-priesthood based on Mars which provides the Imperium with its scientists, engineers and technicians. The tech-adepts of the Mechanicus are a privileged caste of Tech-priests who jealously guard the knowledge required to maintain and construct much of the Imperium's advanced technology.
The Mechanicus worship the God-Emperor as the Omnissiah of their cult and were the first people to formally acclaim His divinity, although their religious doctrines differ greatly from those of the Adeptus Ministorum. They are granted an unusual amount of political and religious autonomy within the Imperium's structure, a role protected by the ancient Treaty of Mars. On Ophelia VII, the Mechnicus are the masters of the 'Dust Zone and maintain the manufactorums which produce wargear and other materiel for the Adepta Sororitas Orders of the Convent Sanctorum and the Daughters of Verity. The Saint of the Daughters of Verity, Verity the Crystal Lady, was an Adeptus Mechanicus tech-priestess while enfleshed and the two organizations maintain a close relationship.
