History & Usage

Everyday use

Tarantella is drunk by all strata of Necromundan society. Its price (compared to other liquors) makes its consumption a status symbol.

Cultural Significance and Usage

Because of tarantella's semi-toxic nature, it is used in initiation and endurance rituals by some Necromunda underhive gangs. A number of religious sects ritually consume it to deaden their sense of taste before sacred feasts (so as to emulate the God-Emperor who can no longer taste food after His interment in the Golden Throne).

Industrial Use

Although it is often joked that "a good tarantella can degrease an engine" it has no industrial applications

Hazards

In addition to the usual deleterious effects of excessive alcohol consumption, including the concomitant risk of addiction, prolonged use can cause nerve damage and neurological impairment because of its anesthetic properties.
