Breatheweed
An aquatic plant that can be chewed to temporarily breather underwater.
Basic Information
Anatomy
The breatheweed plant is a blue/green mottled plan with three large pads that float on the surface of a body of water. A ribbon-like root extends to the earth below; clinging to the underside of the pad may be found one or two globular seed pods.
Ecology and Habitats
Breatheweed can be found growing in small clusters in fresh and brackish bodies of water and slow moving streams.
Additional Information
Uses, Products & Exploitation
The seed pods, when chewed underwater, produce a translucent bubble of breathable air to form at the mouth of the chewer. This bubble, when occasionally chewed, will permit the chewer to breather underwater for up to one hour per seed pod.
The seed pods must be kept wet in fresh (not stagnant) water, or they lose their waterbreathing capabilities. Seed pods kept in a jar of water will last 2 days unless the water is changed.
