Archduke Davian Karal

Rumours among the people of Atur and the Seekers of Karrnath that once, the land Atur stood on was known as the Lake of Shadows - a manifest zone to Mabar that spawned uncounted horrors, plagues, and death. The great necromancer, Duran the Wise, was the first to dispel the shadows and build on the "lake", learning how to contain it. They say that today, the Grand Duke of Atur holds that responsibility - and indeed, the title is not hereditary. The details are kept in shadow, but it's known that when the previous Duke falls, anyone with enough willpower, faith, and understanding of necromantic science can lay claim to the position.
Davian is a half-elf (khoravar) who can trace his bloodlines back to Duran the Wise. Though his title of Grand Duke entitles him to use the 'ir suffix, his parents weren’t nobles and Davian is proud of his lowly roots; he enjoys the discomfort of his fellow warlords when they remember that he earned his title.
Davian has held the position for 235 years, since he was 33. Known as a necromantic prodigy, he is now one of the most potent necromancers in the country, living or dead. However, reports say that he has not left the Duchy of Atur in this time, and may in fact be somehow bound to the site.
He is an elegant khoravar with pale skin and shining dark hair that he usually wears in a plaited braid. The irises of his eyes are ever-shifting gray. Davian is tall and thin, but not gaunt; he moves with an easy grace. On rare ocassions he has publically shown that under his clothing, his left arm and shoulder are black, shadowy mist in a replica of the arm that was once there, shifting between a solid and incorporeal state at will.
