King Kaius ir'Wynarn III
His Majesty, King of Karrnath
The current monarch of Karrnath, King Kaius ir'Wynarn III. Known for his contradictions - he rules the most martial nation, but is a tireless advocate for peace. He is a skilled fighter unpopular with his warlord council, maintains his nation as a dictator while pushing it to become more progressive, and is rumoured to be an undead monstrosity while opposing the Blood of Vol.
One of the younger monarchs of the Five Nations, by five years old his father and older brother had died, leaving him an infant that inherited the throne. His aunt, Moranna ir'Wynarn, took the throne as regent through his childhood, and from 15 he began involving himself in the leadership of the country. At 18, he worked with Moranna to dismantle the Emerald Claw and shatter the Blood of Vol's influence in the country, and in 993YK at 20 years old, he inherited the throne proper.
Kaius has consistently pushed for peace through his rule, and was the architect of the Treaty of Thronehold that ended the Last War. This has made him unpopular with many of his warlords, the local nobles who raise his armies and rule the provinces, as well as many of his other citizens who believe Karrnath could have (and should have) won the war.
Kaius is openly dismissive of the Blood of Vol, and led the charge to have their status in Karrnath revoked and the Emerald Claw dismantled. He has publically blamed the Seekers for several crippling plagues in the early years of the war, and is blamed by many Seekers as directly responsible for the lowered status of the Vol church. He's personally shown a casual following of the Sovereign Host, but is generally irreligious himself.
Persistant, baseless rumours have been the bane of his rule. Many beleive that Kaius is a vampire that feeds on his subjects, that he is an undead lich in thrall to his aunt, that he is the reincarnation of his grandfather Kaius I, that he maintains a harem in his castle at Crownhome, or that he is secretly married to an Aereni elf diplomat. Whether malicious or just wrong, he has little patience for rumour, and it's generally advised to not bring these issues up with him casually.

Kaius has two younger siblings. His sister, Haydith, is a ward of King Boranel in Breland, while his brother Gaius is a ward of Thrane, as part of a deal that saw younger royalty of those nations living in Karrnath. In the event of future wars, it's expected these wards will quickly become hostages.
