The Blood of Vol

The Blood of Vol is a nontheistic and decentralized religion that worships the "divinity within" rather than an external higher power. Its followers, called Seekers, hold to the belief that the gods hold mortal lives in contempt, and that any person could rise to their power if not for the problem of mortality. At its best, it encourages a pragmatic, deeply charitable and community-driven outlook on life; at its worst, its members have committed terrible crimes in servitude of beings seeking immortality.   The faith is highly decentralized, with members encouraged to choose their own symbols and create their own rites. The religion is traditionally associated with use of the undead, and a common acceptance that if one's divine spark is extinguished on death, that the body can then be used for the good of the community. Skeletons of the faithful acting as labourers or field workers is a common sight in Seeker communities. Other intelligent undead, such as the mummified oathbound and vampires, are treated as minor martyrs - those who have died, lost their chance for divinity, but remained in the world to guide those that remain.   Core doctrines include:
  • Everyone has a spark of divinity. Find that power within.
  • Death is the end, Dolurrh is oblivion, and if the gods exist, they are cruel.
  • Stand with those you care for; all we have is this life and each other.
  •   Formerly the state religion of Karrnath, some 30 years prior the then-regent Moranna began a split from the religion. She disbanded the Order of the Emerald Claw, the faith's most powerful martial order, and revealed the many crimes and atrocities its members had committed while arresting its leaders and seizing its strongholds. Following Moranna, King Kaius III then broke from the faith officially, moving the country to become secular.
