Aljashean Desert

The Shifting Sands

The Shifting sands of Aljashe are located on the southwest peninsula in East Ceria. It is the largest hot desert in both west and east Ceria, and can reach air temperatures of up to 50°C. The sand can reach temperatures up to 75°C, which drastically impacts what kinds of flora and wildlife can sustain themselves there.

Geography

More than 700 miles of desert stretch across the nation of Aljashe. "The shifting sands" name, accurately describes its tendency to move around and shift. A colossal dune might be entirely erased within the span of just a few hours. This makes any attempt to map out the desert layout entirely fruitless, by the time your map is complete, most of it has become inaccurate. Any structures that have been built throughout the ages have been swallowed whole by the sand floor and pulverized by the sand grinding against the structure. Occasionally there are some remnants that emerge from the sand floor, which indicates that at some point there were constructions that used to be there.

Trade

There are no permanent settlements in the shifting sands, nevertheless, neighboring settlements use the desert as means of transporting goods. The desert is also rich with exclusive resources like gems that emerge from the sands from time to time. Nomadic tribes travel across the desert in search of valuable resources to trade with the nearby settlements. While the climate might be very harsh to wildlife and flora, it still produces resources that are particularly useful as magical components. A rich variety of gemstones, metals, and rare plants can be found in the shifting sands. But the most exclusive resource, that can only be found in the shifting sands is the Caeruleum Salis, a type of blue salt. Another delicacy that can only be found in the shifting sands is Hydromel, a type of honey.

History

Little is known about the origins of whatever civilization used to live in the shifting sands. Most of the written history does not date back to that time, and the surrounding inhabitants settled down in Aljashe after this mysterious civilization had collapsed. Despite history being documented far better these days, a lot is still unknown about the culture and history surrounding the nomadic tribes in the desert. This is most likely because the tribes do not wish to disclose their excavation sites and search areas, so they mostly keep information to themselves. One thing that has become common knowledge is the fact that these nomadic tribes have fought each other throughout the years. Typically the Sun Elf tribes remain peaceful among themselves, but the Brownskin Orc tribes can be very hostile to both the elves and their own kind. Countless tribes have gone missing in the desert, one can only assume that they have either been killed of by another tribe, or the little wildlife that exist there has taken them. The only thing that's certain is that they have been swallowed by the great sea of sand, unlikely to rise to the surface again. One can only assume that there are countless untold stories to be found, beneath the ground of the shifting sands.

Notable Locations

There are no maps with locations as stated earlier, but there are still certain areas that seem to remain constant, or at least provide some sort of consistent supply of materials that rise from the sands. The tribes take note of these locations and return to them from time to time to excavate more or see if there are any new resources available. Creating gold and iron mines are a common practice, however, they do not last for very long and must be rebuilt each time the tribes return. Gemstone fields are locations that yield gemstones, found on the surface or just beneath the surface of the sand.

Inhabitants

The only humanoid inhabitants are the nomadic tribes that travel the desert. Since The Great Migration a lot of different races and ethnicities live as nomads in the shifting sands. The most common ones in the modern era are Sun Elves and Brownskin Orcs.    The largest orginization that frequently travels across the shifting sands is The Roving Clan.
