Missiles
Missiles are self-propelled projectiles that typically deliver explosive payloads to targets at significant range. They are commonly emplyed in space combat, as well as surface combat. Space missiles are generally considered the most effective long-range anti-ship weapons available to humanity, as their onboard computers can counteract any evasive maneouvres taken by targeted vessels. Missiles are also the only weapons system capable of reliably bypassing all forms of magnetic deflectors, and are also capable of causing extreme damage to targets relative to other space weapons. They are, however, highly vulnerable to point-defence weapons systems (much more so than magnetic accelerator weapons) and electronic countermeasures. They also require significant storage space, and thus ships can quickly become depleted of missiles, particularly on extended military campaigns.
