Torch Drive
Torch drives are a classification of spaceship drive characterised by simultaneously high efficiency and power. The most common forms are Deuterium-Helium 3 fusion drives, which direct nuclear exhaust to provide propulsion for a spaceship. Modern torchships are capable of accelerating at close to 1g continuously for several weeks without refuelling, though many larger vessels have much lower cruise accelerations to increase fuel efficiency. As such, most ships can cross between gateways in a system in roughly one week, accounting for both acceleration and deceleration burns.
