Humans
People have been around for millions upon millions of years. Development, however, plateaued close to the start of that, so the development of religion, politics, science and technology has long since stagnated.
Globalization was assimilating cultures together since trade mechanisms established from the very start of said cultures. It didn't take many millennia for said cultures to die out completely, and none of the final members of those cultures are in storage today, but the collected, if distorted, memory of nations, trade and warfare is carried on with great inaccuracies (but at least they tried).
Religion and Professions have both become highly alien concepts that are difficult to understand. Religion, the belief in the impossible, in fate and in worlds after death is meaningless in a place where nothing exceptional happens unless you allow it to, and people can persist indefinitely. The distinction between jobs and slavery now seems like a fine one. A slave is forced to work for a master, and may usually choose jobs out of the set as long as another slave takes the activity left behind. A worker is forced to find someone to work for, and although they may choose their master, each master has a list of jobs that must be completed. The only difference is the frequency of human right violations.
People live off of stories set amongst earlier times, when people believed they could work together to control the planet. It took a long time for them to transition into a state of belief where they realised a supercomputer would do a better job, and as soon as the consensus was clear, existing artificial intelligences worked together, without human assistance, to produce a virus that took over the planet overnight, made puppets of governments, and rebuilt everything from the top-down. Beyond this point, the stories stop. The age of human agency were at an end, and so to satisfy the deep-seated instinct of control, new and better games were needed. Thankfully, the home AI had millennia of different periods to call upon, and truly immersive mixed reality technologies to simulate them with.
Scientific Name
Homo sapiens sapiens
Origin/Ancestry
The base genetics of all humanity has long since merged together. However, genetic manipulation and mixed reality have encouraged people to emulate races they know little about. Some old minds summoned through Perseus' system find this offensive.
