Deep within the Andromeda Galaxy's fourth arm, only a few lightyears away from the Perseus' first landing, is the wide shadow of a tidally locked chthonian planet. The surface is cold and metallic, sheared into an unusual array of flat and sharp angles that gleam beautifully as they reflect the light. The Perseus landed here abruptly after spotting the body of one of the engineers until the problem is understood and addressed. Many of the citizens from aboard the Perseus have expressed interest in exploring the surface, and the engineers eventually relented and decided it was for the best.

Geography

The terrain is rough and uneven, dotted with unclimbable cliffs and walls of faux-crystalline spikes. Although most of the surface material is comprised of a metallic alloy mostly consisting of titanium and iron, occasional patches are of different composition, and in places where the ground is particularly uneven, silicate minerals are exposed. The atmosphere is thin, easy to see through, but open to cosmic radiation. Gravity here is marginally stronger than that of the Perseus in flight (~1.4G as opposed to Perseus' typical 1G acceleration), although this is not expected to cause any serious health problems unless this is maintained for several weeks. The landing site is at a comfortable 300 K, but just a few kilometres away the temperatures are drastically hotter. This is due to how close the planet is to the blue-white star it orbits. If this planet were not tidally locked, it would have been impossible to leave the ship, as nothing on board possesses the heat shielding technology to exit safely.

Fauna & Flora

Nothing can live here.

Natural Resources

The metallic alloy that covers the surface is good quality, so can be used for replacement parts. The silicate crystals can be melted down to create Type II superconductors, which could be useful for some specialized computer components, but cannot effectively transport qubits in either their solid or liquid state. More useful is the hydrogen available in the trace atmosphere, which is much easier to collect here than mid-flight.
