Balarath is a male kalashtar and Mastermind Rogue. As a player character, he is played by Ryan DeLeon.

Description

Appearance

Balarath wears a clean, black military or Watchman style uniform and black boots. He is slender and pale, with dark hair and gaunt features. His eyes, though a dark brown, have a strange depth to them which is due to him being kalashtar.

Personality

Balarath is quiet and has a slightly off-putting aura about him that only persists until people personally meet Bal, who can be quite warm and welcoming. Generally, he spends a lot of time in thought and is a natural observer. Though preferring quiet and solitude, he has opened himself up slightly in the presence of his new compatriots.

Biography

Background

Balarath is a native Brelander and comes from Sterngate in southeastern Breland. He was born a kalashtar to two normal, human parents, a rarity in Kalashtar society.

Pre-Campaign

Balarath decided to leave Sterngate and head to Sharn in search of intelligence work. Using funds he saved up, he purchased sleeper car tickets on the Lightning Rail.

Campaign

Session 1: The 13th House

When Rail Raiders attacked the Lightning Rail, Balarath decided to free a young woman named Yelena in order to help fight them after first forming a mental connection and telepathically communicating with her, revealing that he had psionic abilities. Once the raiders were defeated, Bal was hired by a gnome professor, Dr. Turk, to join the Phaeros Foundation. Bal also telepathically communicated with Vax, warning him about the impending attack.

Session 2: An Unexpected Guest

While aboard the Leveebreaker, Bal confided in Vax that he was kalashtar, which is why he had psionic abilities.

Session 5: Shadow, Rake, and Flame

During the Foundation's Lightning Rail trip from Sharn, BR to Ghalt, AU, Bal opened up to Vax and Marcella, telling them both in clear terms that he was kalashtar. He also mentioned that he was born to two normal, human parents.
