House Cannith

House Cannith is a dragonmarked house found in Khorvaire. House Cannith specializes in invention and technological marvels having invented the Lightning Rail as well as firearms. For a few centuries, Cannith was widely considered the most powerful house by a large margin, however the Mourning reduced the House to a shadow of its former self.

Overview

House Cannith leads the technology industry and was once the most powerful house in Khorvaire.   Emblem: Gorgon
Dragonmark: Mark of Making
Industries: Firearms, Household Goods, Warforged (former)

Dragonmark

House Cannith possesses the Mark of Making. This dragonmark grants its bearer various arcane abilities, including mending objects as well as creating constructs from nothing. Dragonmarked persons are able to find work in almost any industry, but many are now heavily recruited by House Cannith since many died during the Mourning.

House Industry

Firearms

By far Cannith's most influential and valuable invention is the firearm. Famously invented in 761YK, the firearm now makes up 65% of Cannith's annual revenue stream. During the Last War, Cannith was producing over 1,000 firearms a day, sending them out to all corners of the continent. While they do not hold a monopoly on the industry, their weapons are still considered the very best.

Warforged

Cannith's most famous invention was the Warforged. Though their origin is still a House secret, the Warforged were invented to serve as dispensable soldiers during the Last War. Cannith came under fire late in the war when Khorvaire began to see the Warforged not as a tool of war, but as individuals deserving of the same choices and rights as anyone else. This "industry" is now defunct as the Treaty of Thronehold banned the creation of any new warforged and granted them citizenship and civil rights. Cannith tries to downplay this black mark on their history, a feat made easier by the tragedy of the Mourning.

Everyday Goods

House Cannith's Gorgon logo can be found on everything from tea kettles to light switches throughout the entirety of Khorvaire. Dragonshard infused technologies, like electric light, are almost entirely made out of Cannith factories. Their logo has come to be known as a shorthand for quality and almost any citizen in Khorvaire will tell you that Canniths don't break. But, if they do, Cannith also offers repair services for almost anything imaginable, making Cannith repair shops a go-to in day-to-day life.

History

House Cannith has a strange and storied history unlike many of the other Houses of Eberron. For centuries, their dragonmarked abilities were considered lesser than most of the other houses, dismissed as creators of useless trinkets. However, when paired with the natural arcane power of dragonshards, Cannith's inventions came to shape the world.   Cannith also gained more power and influence through the Last War than any other House by far. The inventions of both firearms and warforged defined the Last War and perhaps even contributed to its brutality and length. But this power was doomed not to last.   At the end of the Last War, Cannith suffered two blows, one major and one minor.   House Cannith had first appeared in Cyre and throughout history its major enclave was located in the Empire's capital of Metrol. Unfortunately this meant that the Mourning hit Cannith the hardest out of any House. Their famed forge was either destroyed or lost in the disaster and almost 90% of their highest ranked dragonmarked member were killed. This blow has left Cannith on the brink of ruin, aggressively recruiting any with the Mark of Making.   Second, the Treaty of Thronehold gave the warforged their freedom and forbade Cannith from creating any more, effectively shutting down their newest and most prosperous industry.
