Temple Training for the Public
Temples traditionally offer education to the surrounding community, in the areas of literacy, arithmetic, and combat. It is not permitted to take only one; a student must study all three and maintain competency to progress in classes.
In earlier times of wars, the temple schools were critical to training the populace to defend themselves and slow invaders while the kingdom's army could be deployed. In these days, however, the combat classes are largely held over for tradition, and the caliber of instruction varies from location to location.
Attendance at a temple school is free in most cases, or at least has no monetary cost. The temple's clerics and staff provide the instruction in return for chores performed by students, generally gardening or cleaning. Materials are provided by community donations or occasionally by wealthy patrons.
