May 2
A new month and a new journal! I look forward to collecting my works once I retire but I have many many adventures to complete before I can put my feet back up at the hearth of my family home in
Swine's Hollow .
My confederates and I had just settled down in the elf city of
Analion to rest after our brave adventures in the kobold caves (see last book).
Grilvur was unimpressed by the elves with their fine robes and flowing hair, he’s more of the ale and wenches type.
Charity and
Parvam settled in quite nicely. I myself found the elvish wine went to my head a little fast, but the bread and butter was excellent. I’m not sure where they got the butter from. I haven’t seen many cows...
Anyway, turns out that some Elf big shot named
Aramil Siannodel was looking for some mercenaries. A caravan was waylaid by some bugbears and they stole some fancy sword that was a gift from
Symon III to the elf king or something. Something about his coronation or something. All I remember is he was offering one hell of a reward.
So we set out in the morning. Grilvur couldn’t be happier.
May 4.
Due to my exceptional skills, we managed to find the bugbears trail. We’ve been tracking them all day and I’m sure we’re getting close. Parvam mentioned something about how the forest was getting greener and how the underbrush was getting thicker. But honestly it all looks like trees too me.
May 5.
I met TWO dragons today! I’ve never even seen a dragon before let alone TWO!
I’m getting ahead of myself... We tracked the bugbears to a little lake with a waterfall and in checking behind the waterfall I found a secret cave. It was pretty green for being underground, with moss and vines everywhere and holes in the roof to let the sun in. Luckily I had my waterproof case for my journal.
Anyway, we went in and there were these two big green dragons in there. I hid, Grilvar wanted to fight them, and Parvam started to pray (big surprise there). Charity however, decided to try to negotiate with them before they ate us. Their names were
Yrlan and
Guldreg the Withered , and apparently they were a couple, and actually quite nice once you got to know them. I don’t know what Charity said to them but they let us pass. I know my dad told me never trust a tiefling, but she’s really helped us out so far.
May 6
We’ve been wandering through the caverns for about a day. I feel we’re getting close to the Bugbears. We talked to a strange hoofed dwarf, he didn’t seem to like us very much and told us to be careful. He mentioned something about the Ecology; how the bugs and beetles ate the fungus and there were bigger things that hunted them, but I really didn’t pay attention.
So far we’ve seen some oozes and a couple of worm like things that tried to attack us.
Unfortunately we lost Parvam. He was hit by a rock falling from the ceiling while we were fighting some tentacled thing. I wanted to head back after that, but Charity reminded me about the reward and i decided we should carry on.
May 7,
We found the bugbears! We didn’t even have to fight them as some other monster had got there first. The best way I can describe it is a giant chicken with knives sticking out of them. We managed to scare it off and recover the sword. Charity spied a side passage that she thinks might be where the bugbears were hiding their other loot. We’re going to take a quick rest and head in.
May ???,
I am so lost. I don’t know what happened to Charity and Grilvur. I remember there was a fight against... something. I stabbed it... or was that Charity? I still have the sword, but have been wandering around trying to find my way out for hours... maybe days? I have to get out of here. I found a little room. I’m going to camp here and then try again.
