Mairah

Mairah is a light, savory mushroom based broth that is often drank as an alternative to coffee or tea. While it lacks the caffeine of the alternatives, Mairah boasts a higher vitamin and mineral content. Mairah can be prepared simply by steeping mushrooms, either fresh or dried, in hot water until the desired strength is reached. Solids are usually strained out and the Mairah is served.

Variations

The primary way to adjust the flavors of Mairah is the use of additional herbs, spices, or vegetables in the brewing process. Dried kelp and seaweed is a common flavoring agent along coastal settlements where the vegetation is common. This adds salinity and iodine like flavor, and is sometimes called Mariner's Tea. Vibrant flowers are used to add delicate floral elements to Mairah brewed in the Vydrean Peninsula and along the Aesteran Coast. In the settlements and cities of the Djeran Desert naturally occurring fungi are rare, but small amounts are cultivated in manmade caves. 

Enchantment

Fungi that possess minor magic properties are fairly common in the Underdark and in the deeper regions of the Vyrdis Jungle. Mairah produced from such magic-bearing mycelium are often labeled High Mairah, and possess greater restorative and stimulating effects.
