The Calthean Synod

Founded upon the ruins of the ancient city of Pnubarum, the Calthean Synod is an elven kingdom that encompasses the entirety of the Vyrdian Peninsula. Founded by Phaeron Aemoril I, the Synod is a theocratic autocracy dedicated to the elven pantheon of the Seladrine and acts of communal penance for the perceived sins of the ancient primal elves.    Elven belief holds that in time immemorial a rift formed between Corellon Latherian, the prime patron deity of the elves, and Lolth, a rising individualistic elven goddess. Many elves sided with Lolth and chose to abandon their once immutable forms in favor of static forms, the elves we know today. Shortly after this schism, the now mortal elves realized their mistake and begged forgiveness from Corellon, who was angry at his children for siding with the now banished and loathed Lolth. This conflict can still be seen in the tension and mistrust between surface-dwelling Seladrine worshipping elves and the subterranean Lolth worshipping Udadrow (commonly called Drow).    Calthean culture features worship of the Seladrine heavily, with highly regimented lifestyles that seek to embody the three main aspects of their pantheon: Magic, Martial Prowess, and the Arts. These three aspects are foundational to Calthean Elven culture and are known as the Neled Brith, or The Three Pillars.
