The Fugue

The Fugue is the name given to a sensory phenomenon that affected every living creature in the World in 1987 CA, causing the memories of sentient creatures to become hazy and scrambled. It is still unknown what caused the Fugue, or how long it actually lasted. Some people emerged from the haze and had lost loved ones seemingly from old age. Some farmers reported that a vibrant crop suddenly withered and died upon the Fugue ending.

Academics have a number of theories as to what exactly occurred. The prevailing theory is that some kind of anomaly with the Weave is responsible, and many hypothesize that a similar event is responsible for the Great Aurora that happened over 2000 years ago.

Other scholars believe that another Plane of existence may have overlapped with the Material Plane and interfered with how mortal creatures perceive the world around them. Only when this plane fully exited from ours did our faculties return to us.

Yet another popular theory is that some catastrophic event shattered time itself, and the resulting reality we find ourselves in is merely the most favorable of the surviving timelines. This theory is widely considered to be metaphysical garbage.
