It is said in the that in the Age of Ancients the gods walked the earth and did battle with demonic forces. These battles scarred the land and caused the slaughter of thousands. In these days, a Tiefling brought together a group of mortals who sought to end the hostilities. First they tried to organize peace summits, but as neither side was willing to meet with the other anywhere but on either end of a battle field. This peaceful approach behind them, they set out to make a weapon that could end these conflicts.
First, he travelled deep into the heavens, seeking out the finest metals. After finding these, he travelled into the abyss to seek out gemstone that could hold immense power. With these materials, he forged the sword in the heat of the Styx and then quenched the blade in the cool waters of the Stoens. Returning to the material plane, he and his followers bided their time, keeping the blade a secret, waiting for the opportune moment to strike. That day came when a force of demons brought themselves to a densely populated area and began wreaking havoc, slaughtering thousands. The gods retaliated, sending a great host of celestials and three of their number to do battle against the demons. Thousands more mortals were slain in the ensuing battles. The gods used the mortals as bait for their maneuvers and will slaughter entire villages if it was possible there was a single possessed member among them. The tiefling and his followers struck, first slaying 2 of the powerful demon lords and then turning and felling two of the gods. The remaining god turned in fear and returned to his home plane, fearing permanent death. With both the demons and celestials on the run, the tiefling made a declaration to each. If any demon lord or god set foot on the earth, he or his descendants would strike them down. The gods acknowledged him and agreed that they would never again set foot on the earth, but the demons refused, swearing vengeance and wrath. The tiefling thrust the blade into the earth and left to the abyss to begin a campaign of extermination against the demons, promising not to return until they were entirely eradicated. He took the name Asmodeus and he and his followers would slowly be corrupted, becoming the first devils. Even today, Asmodeus and his infernal legions fight in the blood war, a vicious conflict that has lasted several thousand years. He has conquered 9 of the endless layers of the abyss and continues to battle even to this day.
This weapon was named Pirfiduxr, meaning the equalizer, but is sometimes called the God Slayer or the World Guard.
