Apocaflare
Effect
The creation of an expanding orb of plasma which radiates an intense heat which may be launched by the caster. The destructive nature of the spell's manifestation leaves little room for physical defense. None but the strongest barrier or counteroffensive spells hold up against the consuming conflagration.
Side/Secondary Effects
The spell completely depletes the aetherial reserves of the caster.
Manifestation
Appearing as a miniature star that gradually grows larger the longer the caster is allowed to channel it, the spell is paired with a blazing glow of light, a sweltering heat and a roar of an inferno.
Source
Drawing upon the aetherial reserves of its caster, the spell then syphons power from a distant star to bring its wrath upon their intended target.
Discovery
The study of extraterrestrial objects often fixates on stars and their surrounding objects. Prospective mages seeking to tap the raw power of a star pursued this goal through any means necessary. Yet it wasn't until the advent of teleportation magic that a means to wield this power became available. A portal, intended to reach a distant star system, instead opened a gateway to the star itself, resulting in an all-consuming blaze spewing forth from the dimensional gate.
Surviving magi sought to improve upon this spell, creating a compact gateway which reduces the rate at which the star spills over, resulting in a controlled means of devastation.
As exposure to the star reduced the life expectancy of those near it, the spell was only to be used when under the effect of advanced protection spells.
