Chapter 12: Home is where the Mind is

General Summary

Back at the Hillside Manor, the party approached Ga Rei to see the Princess. During their waiting period, some matters regarding the 'Empire' are cleared up by Faerus. She claims that the Empire was responsible for the foundation of the three worlds, and that all Acting Guardians up until now had simply been nicknamed Emperor because they bore the same soul as the Emperor responsible for this founding.
Though the Emperors of the past shared this trait, Samantha does not seem to belong in this lineage. Faerus further clarified that for those lacking soulsight, one can determine the similarity of a soul based on behavior, affinity or simply traits of an individual.
Shi Jill joined the party, mentioning that the Prince had not yet returned, and had gone off without a word on the airship.
Faerus speculates that Caerean and Jannelain concocted the myth of the Spirits, for whatever reasons they might have had.
Prior to being known as a Spirit, Faerus occupied the role of Volatile Equipment Handler within the initial exploration of Eteras Minor.
After some talk Ga Rei returned, signalling the party that the Princess was ready for their meeting.
Samantha confirmed that she is in fact the Guardian, while Faerus outlined the larger issue facing them. The Princess pledged her full support to avert catastrophe, and would visit the Seat of the Empire personally to persuade them into changing the claim on the title of Guardian to Samantha.
Though Samantha had pondered on the effectiveness of this approach, she was persuaded by her companions to divide and conquer. Whether that would pan out remained to be seen.
The weight of responsibility began to take its toll on Samantha, rarely finding a moment of rest as it is with the impending doom hanging above her.
Faerus outlined the options once more:
Sheryl and her botanical expertise. Possibly providing a solution for the large amounts of aether required to make the plan work.
Jannelain and his wards. A sorceror with a great amount of insight into complex incantations.
Caerean, the aetherophysicist. With her expertise on the inner workings of aether, only she might know for sure if Faerus' plan will work or not.
After much deliberation, the Guardian decided to visit Jannelain first. Borrowing the royal family's naval vessel, they embarked on a journey across the Eastern Sea.
