Chapter 23: The Vengeful
General Summary
Negotiations ultimately failed, as both parties did not agree to eachother's terms. And so things had to be settled as per the world's customary rites.
Violence.
With the help of their allies, the Guardian was able to dash through the army and make their way up to the Gate.
In front of the portal to Eteras Major stood the person claiming to be the Guardian, none other than former General Miyasaki Shen. The General wished to see the world move away from violence as their go-to solution, instead implementing a system of justice for all, regardless of individual strength. After the many wrongs that had been committed against him and the Late Emperor's attempts to save those on Eteras, he took it upon himself to see this change to society made.
Yet though his goals were admirable, the timing, in the view of the Guardian, was misplaced. Now was the time to escape, one and all. There would be time enough to sort out matters when all were safe and sound.
The General disagreed, former efforts to save the world were sabotaged by the very people the Guardian now harbors as allies. Justice needs to be served swiftly, lest events repeat themselves.
Neither side would sway from their views, and so they had to settle this like every disagreement on this world.
The General, descendant of the First Guardian, Samantha Lane, newly appointed Guardian of Eteras and Miri 'Luanshi' Lu would duel, as is their custom. At the end of a protracted battle, the new Guardian would prove the victor. And so it was declared by Kai Shin, the Soulbinder. Finding the act of stealing the souls of the Da clan distasteful, Kai Shin unbound the souls from their former belongings, allowing them to return to the Cycle.
Yet the wounds suffered by the General over the years had made its way to his very core, warping his body into a vile beast as he fell into the swamp below.
At the request of Kai Shin, the party sought to put him to rest once and for all.
Finding themselves without their martial prowess, the team could only move with grace to avoid the brutish swings of a soul clinging onto life. His former spear struck a crack in the armor of the Wraith, leaving a permanent mark that still permeates the very soul of the former General.
Eventually, the Wraith collapsed, bringing an end to the search for vengeance. His soul was unbound from the amalgamation he had become, hoping to find rest in a new life.
The party left the swamp behind, seeking to carry on his legacy and see justice established eventually.
And yet the General's soul was not yet sated. Vengeance is passed on.
Until someone breaks the cycle itself.
