Chapter 5: Our Great Quest
General Summary
Provided funds and a sense of direction by the Office of Aetherial Research and Development, the Guardian was able to plot out their next move. The matter regarding Sheryl, the former Flower Spirit seemed a tempting task to mark off their checklist, though the Office situated at the Seat of the Empire was a more tempting location to investigate.
According to Luanshi, the 'Empire' came to be after the foundation of Medius, the Offices once in charge of establishing society in its early stages. Over time, connection with the people was lost, allowing Minians to spread falsehood about their identity. Taking the term Spirits for themselves, calling the Office of Societal Foundation and Logistics the Empire and the Office of Aetherial Research and Development became known as the Scholar's Sect.
When the 'Empire' wanted the Minians to cease the deceit, they went about it through methods that were easily interpreted as an attempt at conquest. Conflicts arose as a result, bringing an end to Tori no Machi, Luanshi's place of birth.
Samantha decided to make her first stop the Seat of the Empire, the supposed capital of Eteras Medius.
The choice of route between stopping at the Secluded Town or the Riverside Resort became the hot topic. The Secluded Town may be where Tia hails from, though the little fishing village is hardly an exciting place to visit. While the resort is meant to be relaxing, the association with the Da Clan never left Luanshi's mind, even if his visit changed his fighting style forever.
In the end, the party opted to pass by the Resort.
To Luanshi's misfortune, the moment they got on the wagon, Teshi did as well. Though remaining largely silent for most of the ride. Upon arriving at the first bridge, Teshi informed Luanshi that showfighting has been formally discouraged by The Office, and so she will comply.
For years, bridges have been host to the greatest duels in showfighting Medius has seen, though rarely are there spectators on site to actually see the engagements take place. Though when the prospect arose of Samantha joining in on a duel, she declined, having more important things to do.
The wagon went on towards the Riverside Resort, where a short stop awaited.
