Chapter 7: The Other Side
General Summary
Luanshi decided to approach the Empire's soldiers directly for some questioning, though his pointed tone was immediately defused by a soldier seeming to be as much a person as he is.
Life as an imperial soldier didn't seem particularly harsh, mostly involving travel, settling minor disputes and helping set up infrastructure for and between settlements. The conscript painted a picture of the empire enduring far less strife than Luanshi might have expected.
The Empire's Negotiator seemed familiar with Luanshi's outfit, and its former owner, Shey Muyen. Though his apparent readiness to join the empire in spite of this roused suspicion. The Negotiator was quick to bring up all the matters that seemed out of place, from a citizen of Teichi escaping its disappearance to the role the former Storm had to the Fox Spirit.
The Negotiator probed at Luanshi's knowledge of Teichi's disappearance, but was instead granted nonsense she wasn't inclined to believe. The Negotiator claims the Empire has always intended to improve the living conditions of its lands, primarily focusing on making smaller settlements self-sufficient, often at the cost of larger settlements. Supposedly, the disagreements led to sabotage, which prompted reduced effectivity, which then led to dissent and uprising, all of which ended the day the Emperor died.
Back in Teichi, Tenshi seemed to have discovered both the nature and the source of the sudden disappearance of the city, one he will have to document extensively for his organisation.
