Chapter 8-L2: The Insensitive
General Summary
What reason is there to these memories surfacing? What knowledge do they hold that the past must be brought to the present? Luanshi has not the slightest idea. Only moving forward may he find answers.
The Scout was left on the ice caps to continue scouting for anomalies, as they had been up to now. The snow offered little in the realm of visibility, but the Scout continued on towards the source of the signal.
When they encountered what appeared to be a large mass of icicles sticking out of the ground, they attempted to make contact, only to find their suit's heat reserves unable to cope with the sudden reaction. The touch seemed to have awoken what lay beneath the snow, a behemoth of crystal, bearing the power of the cold this land harbors.
Fighting it alone would be a waste of time, and so the Scout called in support. First to arrive was the Patriarch, who was able to match its sheer strength as they clashed tree to blade. Yet without fire support, the fight would likely end in a stalemate. The Scout didn't quite know how to proceed in this engagement, unable to properly coordinate their strikes as no weakpoints presented themselves from the direct assaults brought to bear on it.
When the odds seemed to have turned against them, the second Transcendent arrived, providing aerial support to inflict the behemoth with ailments. By altering the composition of its crystal, the party was able to overpower the beast's defenses, sending it into an act of desperation. It collapsed the entire arena, sending itself into the chasm buried beneath the snow.
The Insensitive would be dealt with by the remaining field units, and the Scout would be allowed to depart for the next destination.
