Artifacts

What was old is anew again

Objects which have been collected through the length of the ages that possess great value. Heroes, adventurers, private militaries, collectors, and others seek particular ends and artifacts are often employed as means to obtain those ends.   Many artifacts are inert, only possessing sentimental, literary, or historical value to a particular tribe or nationality. However, there yet are many which contain horrifying and ancient magick that reports claim existed before the separation.   Compared to modern magick items, artifacts fit their namesake, being objects of antiquity and are essentially obsolete tools until their true power can be harnessed by proper utilization. Artifacts are also not considered magic items because of how they operate, in their rigid and inflexible method of use. Due to knowledge discovered and imparted by Kaden the Hollowswalker, artifacts have a connection to their location of origin. By attuning experimental magick diagrams with exploits pertaining to spatial manipulating magick, it is possible to go between realms without the use of gates.   -   Pitted Axehead - If repaired or worked, becomes a +1 axe of the wielder's choosing.   “A large axehead riffled with innumerable tiny holes. It is made of an alloy that appears to be long lost to antiquity. Such metallurgy allows the weapon to be remade and reworked easily.”   Ancient Circlet - Grants one 2nd level spell slot once per day.   “A circlet that in its own right could be considered an artifact. Such a ring has deep ties to who Fate would consider worth and imparts favor upon them.”   -   Heroes Crux - An ancient artifact known to modern times as a blue crystalline goblet with black wire filigree. Holding this goblet draws the ire of nearby hostile beings.   Heroes were recorded to drink a mouthful of spring water from this goblet to temporarily obtain this effect for the length of a day. This was done in an effort to preserve the safety of the innocent that were often drawn into heroic crossfire.   "Because of this solidarity, we drink spring water from our own cruxes."   Saints' Ivory - Articles of remains both old and new that had belonged to pious individuals endowed with supernatural energy. These articles are pilfered by brave or foolish grave-robbers seeking to make sums of coin.   Such remains can achieve a litany of effects. Most notably, the Benefactor, a dice made from saintly bones, can influence the probability of rolls. Conceptualizations by some theological theorists and mystics notion the idea of these bones being fabricated into items to harness latent energy such as that of Fate.   Wanderlust Penchant -   Hubric Dismay -   Avarice Specie -   Weregild - An ancient artifact that is an electum coin with a swirling vortex of bright blood that changes based on the viewer.   The viewer will see an amount of blood on the coin related to the amount of sins committed and bounty attained, as viewed by the eyes of their peers regardless of their knowledge.   Pyrean Pendant - A piece of metal only recognizable as a wearable object by the bale on its back. The rest of the pendant is bent, broken, and tarnished to the point that it more easily resembles a crumpled lump of metal. However, this is an item that is linked to upper deities that are no longer seen the realms.   As an action, the user may maintain contact with the pendant using two hands and usher a prayer, allowing it to make the user immune to heat from flames. To continue using this effect, two hand contact must be maintained, as well as the prayer being recited. This effect lasts for up to 30 minutes, once per long rest.   Half-Heart - A charm that resembles a veined heart split in two. One side resembles oxidized brass, while the other is a mysterious alloy. This artifact causes others to harbor a powerful disdain and often develop resentment for the owner, who must have the artifact on their person knowingly or unknowingly. The resentment can be logically or emotionally justified by the others who are affected by it. In the mythos, heroes used this artifact to liberate an oppressed population by sneaking it onto the person of a dictator, which had their council conspire against him.   "What use is the oppressive regime of a dictator whose people resent him when he has half of a heart? They revolt and find a new leader."   Aeir -   Fateweir - A circlet of myth that has existed since the records of humanity. Those who seek to separate themselves from the view of deities may wear this item.   Once worn, the user is able to remain invisible from celestial and demon creatures, able to be used for a total of 10 minutes, and can only be used once per day.
