Hallowed Throne
A gleaming throne of blue crystal with infinitely small geometric patterns etched into a gold-like metal that rests just beneath the surface.
When the Hallowed Throne sits empty with no Monarch to rule, the gates are opened and all are invited to take the seat if they believe they are worthy to be the next Monarch. From the lowliest beggar to the richest of noble, humblest of baker to greatest of heroes, all are free to offer themselves for judgement.
The Counsel
It is not uncommon for the Hallowed Throne to sit empty for years, or in some cases decades. During the time where there is no Monarch the land is ruled by The Supplicant Counsel, made up of representatives from each branch of society and status. The Counsel is bound by oathes taken by the origional members that are passed on with each succession. The vows are different for each position, but they all claim loyalty and obedience to the Monarch.Mechanics & Inner Workings
The Hallowed Throne is intrensically tied to the Kingdom of Locus and the will of its people. It reads the deminor of the kingdom through its people and selects a fitting Monarch by that criteria. When the people are agitated or threatened, it will select someone who can lead them to military victory. When peace is upon the land it will select someone to lead them to prosperity through diplomacy and trade. And so on.
The inner workings of the throne's decision making process is unclear, so any attempt to claim the title of Monarch comes with risk of death; as if an individual sits upon the Hallowed Throne they are burned from the inside out leaving nothing but ash. Save for when there is no ruling Monarch and they are deemed worthy to take the title.
Once a Monarch has been selected they may reign until their death.
Significance
