Ebony Sorrow
A mercenary organization that rose in the aftermath of the Convergence, Ebony Sorrow is a guild that works for the highest bidder. Unless, of course, the Head decides it's not a good enough bid.
The organization originated in Askus during the upheaval and took control of the Realm. Their control lasted almost six hundred years before being driven out by the rebellion, after which they became the organization they are today.
Besides a brief attempt to take control of Sylcyne, Ebony Sorrow hasn't tried to return to being a ruling power of any Realm. Instead, they became one of the strongest players in the underworld.
The most expensive assassins for hire, they live up to every bit of their reputation. Very few can boast about having survived their assassins and those that can don't last very long. They clash with many of the Adventurer's Guilds, but it isn't rare for one of the Guilds to use them to get rid of a competitor or unwelcome figure.
While they are now based in Astrialon, the have a presence in every Realm of varying degrees. Each branch is headed by a Grandmaster, who is in control of the activities in the Realm. The Grandmasters all answer to the Ebony Head, who decides who will take over for a Grandmaster and how to deal with traitors. The identity of the Head is only known to a select few of the Grandmasters, as is their heir.
Over the course of the guild's lifetime, there have been twenty-seven Ebony Heads, with only a few of their identities being known. The only sign that there is a new Head is a change in their personal sigil. While it is not know why this tradition is followed, considering the secrecy surrounding the Head's identity, it is the only way of tracing the history of the guild's movements.
