Cultural Traits: Mountain

Tucked away amongst mountainous rock formations and caverns lies a town safe from the perilous weather that plagues the region. As rain begins pouring down, people out shopping in the streets rush for cover under a rocky outcropping. Safe inside from the rain, a goliath smith pounds away at a glowing piece of metal determined to create her sharpest blade yet.   The traits you gain from growing up in a mountain environment are:
  • Your Strength or Constitution increases by one.
  • You gain proficiency with the hand axe, great axe, light hammer, and war hammer.
  • You gain proficiency with one of the following: jeweler's tools, mason's tools, or smith's tools.
  • Your climbing speed is 25 feet and you have advantage on any Athletics checks made while climbing.
Living amongst rock formations and mountains has given you either a hearty Constitution or immense Strength, increasing one of those ability scores by one. Whether your work involves moving rubble or braving the less than favourable environment of mines, you and your people are robust. In addition, you have been taught to use the hand axe, great axe, light hammer, and war hammer as these weapons are commonly used in this terrain.   Many people that live in mountainous terrain make use of the materials that can be mined from them. Whether you deal with fine gems to create stunning jewelry or spell components, work with stone to craft buildings, or smith metal at the forge to produce weapons, you have been taught to use one set of these tools: jeweler's, mason's, or smith's tools.   Given the terrain you grew up in, you have become acclimated to climbing and know how to do it well. You have a climbing speed of 25 feet, and from your years of experience climbing, you have advantage on any Athletics checks you make while climbing.
