Cultural Traits: Sea-Side

The sound of crashing waves wakes a water genasi family from their slumber. Already out on the glittering sea are fishing boats, their flags flying a myriad of colours. A half-orc man dives from a rocky ledge and cuts through the waves as he takes his morning swim.   The traits you gain from growing up in a sea-side environment are:
  • Your Strength or Wisdom increases by one.
  • You gain proficiency with the trident, spear, light crossbow, and net.
  • You gain proficiency with navigator's tools.
  • Your swimming speed is 25 feet and you have advantage on any Athletics check you make while swimming.
Whether you live in a bustling port city or in a secluded cottage on the beach, sea-side communities are heavily influenced by their proximity to the ocean. Having grown up amongst the waves, you are a strong swimmer and as such, you have a swimming speed of 25 feet and advantage on any Athletics checks you need to make while swimming. This may also mean that you have an increased Strength as you have learned to swim even in the choppiest of waters. Or perhaps maybe your increased Strength comes from your time moving shipments of goods to and from ships that are brought to your city's bustling harbour. Alternatively, you may have a high Wisdom as you have interacted with various sea creatures and have become adept in predicting the quickly changing weather along the coast.   Sea-side communities often rely on fishing for income, so you have been trained to use a trident, spear, light crossbow, and net in your time growing up here. Additionally, whether you have spent time on a boat fishing or have travelled the seas to trade goods, you are familiar with navigating at sea and have proficiency with navigator's tools.
