Sanguine Sunrise #16: A Party in Shambles

General Summary

The group continue travelling after that night, having little worries for anything. They manage to get through a few days before they spot some strange slithering creatures on the triboar trail. They walk by them, avoiding being hurt by such creatures as they were busy eating other things.
Eventually, the party set-up camp and took watches, but despite being safer than other times in the past, it is still dangerous. As Skek is keeping watch, he notices shambling plant creatures coming towards him. He immediately awakens Grimace and then Ramori. They then begin fighting the shambling mounds, one of which immediately envelops Skek. Unable to see outside of the mound, Skek creates an aura of spiritual guardians that hits everyone around him and the mound he is in. This includes Grimace who is badly hurt after fighting one mound and refusing to run in his rage despite barely being able to stand.
Grimace falls unconscious and Luthrin awakens when hit by a mound. The fight continues with Luthrin and Ramori dispatching the mounds while Skek suffocates and Grimace bleeds out. Eventually, due to a mixture of friendly fire and battering from the mounds, Grimace succumbs to his wounds and dies a hero's death fighting trying to destroy the things hurting Skek. Then, Luthrin destroys both mounds, freeing a dying Skek. Ramori hesitates before stabilizing Skek and giving him air.
Then, Luthrin and Ramori discuss killing Skek. This is rather going poorly for the bird man, when two flying dragon-like snake creature arrive and attack Luthrin. Once they knock him unconscious they fly away. He then has a vision on a crimson titan and is told, "Luthrin Arcaidis. Long have I known you would mean something here. You must protect the one called 'Skek.' This path will lead you to the Archon."
The group then sleep before dealing with Grimace's death. Skek had already gentle repose Grimace's body when they come to and prepare his burial. The group leave him his clothes and dig a hole for him as Pep laments beside his body. Ramori whispers, "I wasn't actually afraid of the dark," to her lost friend before filling his grave and leaving Rick atop it.
After this, the group continue and go to Skek's home where they meet Rastra.
