Sanguine Sunrise #7: Souls of the Past
General Summary
Agro looks around to see his old raiding party from his time with an orc tribe. He also notices ever present flames burning in the arena. He fights them off managing to kill four of his friends, but his leader remains alive and facing off against him one on one. Ragnar, the leader attempts to push him into the flame, failing twice before striking him down with a greataxe.
Kiwi stood talking to herself. The mirror image tells her that she needs to "listen to the offer. It is best to do things for yourself rather than suffer from doing only what the parasite wants." Kiwi simply responds by saying that, "you are a deception. I will not listen to a single thing you say."
Grimace is in a room filled with cages as cackling strange creatures charge at him. Multiple of them manage to bite into him and cause some damage, but in the end he manages to slay them all with his trusty greataxe. After this, a set of stairs open up. He charges up and sees as an orc downs Agronok, so he charges in and kills the orc. He then manages to stablize the hurt Agronok.
Skek faces off against the spectral warrior in front of him. He manages to drastically hurt the undead creature whilst opening a coffin to reveal the spectre's body inside of it. Skek then finishes off the creature, causing a door to open along with stairs that lead up. He followed them, past a room filled with cages to the top of the tower where he heals Agronok.
Agro questions how he was not powerful enough as a mage to even slay the people that the necromancer did so long ago. Grimace and Skek are unable to console him, and the necromancer simply says it is because he is not powerful.
Luthrin awakes in a room with a man who is supposedly some kind of ancient patron. The patron argues that they need to work together to get out of the room as the walls slowly close in on the pair. As they get within 10 feet of each other, Luthrin extends the chains on his left arm and goes to shake his hand with the chains. At this point, Luthrin feels something strange as the man grabs his chains and decides to singe him with it which does not effectively hurt him due to its fire damage. The man then runs up on Luthrin and grabs the chains, and disappears. Then, the stairs open upwards. He enters a room with two Kiwis.
After the mirror Kiwi reiterates that Kiwi should think for herself, Kiwi lays down and lets Luthrin kill her. Then a door opens and they leave to a large bridge and realize that they were in a descending tower and they look as a tower extends upwards and Agro, Skek, and Grimace appear across it. There is a pair of circles on each side of the bridge, and the necromancer tells them that this is a test of their trust.
Luthrin and Kiwi step onto the circle and Luthrin is blinded and deafened to everything besides Kiwi while the same happened respectively for Agro and Skek. Kiwi manages to lead Luthrin to the bridge and he summoned a stick in order to traverse the bridge. Skek nearly gets Agro killed in his first step, but Grimace physically corrects him. The two eventually make it to the center of the bridge and Skek shrieks to stop Agro, causing him to sharply turn around and start to fall off the bridge. Luthrin slows his fall by holding him with the stick he had, and kiwi summons vultures to save them. They then shook hands and the bridge fell out beneath them, but a new stone bridge arose as Agro and Luthrin regained their sight and hearing.
The necromancer then claimed that the final room was open, and the party returned to the Luthrin/Kiwi tower to head to the final room. Upon entering, they realize this room, holds a long dead adventuring party: The Renegades. As they enter, they realize that there are four figures. A man in heavy armor with a greatsword, a dwarf with light padded clothing wielding a greataxe, a sun elf with a staff, and a woman holding a lute. The man claims he does not want a fight as he is simply here to kill the necromancer, and these people should stand aside. Kiwi claims that they came from trying to do the same and explain what really is going on, but the group does not buy it and remain hostile. Luthrin tries his hardest to save the situation, and he performs adamantly as they slightly relax their guard ever so slightly before they notice Sheath's sword strapped to Agro's side. Everyone was ready to continue this tense conversation except for the high elf mage who claimed that this is wrong, they killed sheath, and she begins casting a spell, and a battle began.
As aggression takes hold, the voice of the necromancer slowly laughs as saws rise from the ground. As the fight progresses it appears the saws can move towards people that enter its pathway. The fight begins in the favor of the Renegades. This comes from the fact that Skek accidentally shot Grimace in the back and via the help of the martial renegades, Grimace was sadly slain in battle. After this, the northerners started fighting with great ferocity and slayed each of the Renegades before coming to reality.
When the group comes back to reality they watch as the vampire jumps up and grabs Grimace. He attempts to teleport away, but is countered by Luthrin, and he is damaged a bit. Following this, Agro attempts to counter his second teleport, and fails, so the vampire and Grimace are gone. After a short while of figuring out what the hell is going on, the group finds that the wall behind the game was simply and illusion to force the party into the game before moving on. As they follow they enter a small alcove area with the sea lapping against the stone while the necromancer looks out at the water. Grimace is also in the room, held by a man made of stone over a large hole.
The necromancer turns around and tells the group that he wants to talk, and before they do anything stupid, if he commands it the man will drop their friend or if they hurt the creature it will drop him and he won't be easily revived.
Luthrin argues for hearing out the necromancer while Agronok tested the waters of his allies to see if they’d betray him here. Eventually with no one supporting Agro, The necromancer continued with a deal. Despite half of the group disagreeing with the deal, they go through with it and make the deal while Agro leaves the room. In the deal, the necromancer will ressurect the dead creature, find a cult for Luthrin, and rid Kiwi of her parasite while the party is tasked with killing the wyrm of the mere within the year, not hurting the necromancer in that same time period, and discussing the treasure hoard of the wyrm at a later date. He then asked for everyone’s names and neglected to give his as they neglected to ask.
The group then goes to the keep and finds that Theirastra is sick and needs to travel to Silverymoon to receive aid. Grimace shows up and the whole group decides to travel there.
