Session #14: The Hold of Death

General Summary

The onlookers of the pitfight become increasingly agitated as the rest of the party enters battle with Beist. After his death, many of them deafen their ears to the calls of the nobleman and attempt to kill both him and the party. However, after a short fight, they are taken care of. The nobleman then sets about getting the unconscious and conscious members out of the pit they are in.   Meanwhile, a kenku named Skek begins strangling Finn impulsively. Kriv, who is also in this cell helps save an unconscious Finn from dying and begins to watch out for Skek's actions. When the noble and the others arrive at their cell to free Kriv and Finn, the noble is bribed to save all three of them. The reason the party opted for this is mostly unknown, but during his interactions with Skek, Kuro begins having flashes of memory of his wife and village dying while he carries a young Aila away to safety before his vision turns to white.   The party are entrusted with a job by the nobleman, Guy Wylde, to rid a keep of an unknown threat. He tells them that once they're done, they can find him in Amphail if they are looking for work, and if they don't perform the job, he will hunt them down and kill them.   Everyone heads off to complete the job, travelling a four day journey to reach the keep. On their way there, Alex receives a message of images from their guide. Their vision turns white before they see a crawling hand moving around. Following this, they see an image of four people, one of which being a decaying corpse that reminded them of Arnold, one being an elven woman, a man, and the last being a halfling.   The following nights Luthrin and Kiwi begin having conversations on their watch about plans after the keep and secrets between them. On the first night, Luthrin is unable to say anything about himself, but as he is preparing to divulge more of himself to Kiwi than he has ever done before, a hooded humanoid figure approaches the two of them.   A fight ensues with this sensual figure biting into the necks of most of his foes before grabbing Arnold and rising into the air. The figure then dropped him, causing Arnold to strike into the ground before being impaled by his own blade. Luckily, Luthrin is able to pull the blade from Arnold's stomach as Skek prevents the bleeding from killing him. Skek then manages to kill the vampiric creature as he attempts his escape.   The following day the party all arrive at the keep. There they find many undead creatures as well as goblinoid and ogre creatures. The party entered a room containing a hobgoblin, a skeleton, two bugbears, and a goblin with a metallic arm, and Skek began making an offensive move before any contact could be made between the two groups. Seeing this action being performed, the hobgoblin says a keyword, causing a heap of bones piled in front of him to form into a large skeleton-like creature that attacks the party as the hobgoblin runs away.   The party have managed to kill the bugbears, goblin, and an additional creature that attacked them. However, as they slay the skeleton juggernaut, it comprises itself into 12 normal sized skeletons, and the party must ready itself to face this additional threat as they hear shrieks rising from the stairs above them.
