Titans' Folly #2: Something's Changing
General Summary
The group abandon Grimace's grave and look forward to their journey. They continue on their path, all speaking to each other throughout their time. In their travels, Hope and Luthrin catch up fully on what occurred when they separated. Where their friends ended up. What paths of heroism or self-profit they've been on. The reason they are where they are.
At another time, a man comes running towards the party after music has been playing a ways away. This figure, titled Monty by Kurt, leads Hope, Kurt, Tima, and other members of the party to the music to save his friends. Hope moves forward and tries to free them but they continue doing what they are doing. When asking one of them to sing, the figure shrieks in the language of the stars, and a bodytaker plant reveals itself, attempting to devour Hope while the dancers all try to take out the rest of the party. The party all easily manage to take out the enemy, but at the same time, Gratorr gathers four skeleton recruits that were being crushed in this faux plant-person dance.
As the group were finishing their travels, Kriv managed to find that he could help mend some of the corruption gained by members of the party who dealt with Sally Gristlegums and manages to fully heal them all. After one last night of rest, everyone feels good about their last waking and travel to the grove, although Bear finds some strange black growths on the trees on their way and Hope hears chittering noises.
Finally, as the group travelled along a path worn of brush, they see the giant tree that signifies the location of the Grove. As they do so, Bear's whip of Warning reveals a danger has approached. At this time, Kurt feels a blade graze against his armor. He turns around, blocking another stab from the blade, viewing a figure lightly armored with a white mask containing black eyes and a painted red smile. This figure, almost puppeted by tendrils dissolves into mist and appears a ways away and begins slithering backwards before seemingly calling forth allies from beneath the earth who do not appear.
Everyone ignores whatever reinforcements might come and attempts to slay this enemy. Hope rushes in a blind rage, seeing a similar mask to that of the being that caused Arnold's death. Nix launches the feyblade at the creature, which misses and slams into a tree. Others badly wound it through other magics. However, Ariel simply stands by some others and readies to protect them.
Then, a gargantuan black and red worm, the same coloration of the Prince's followers bursts from the earth between the ranged combatants and those who rushed the figure. Afterwards, buzzing creatures of claw and wing burrow out of the earth, and all are ready to rush towards the adventurers.
