Aterius Crystals

Though they have been largely lost to time as a technology, these crystals of pure arcane mined from the surface of the otherworldly realm of Aterius have been used to power all manner of large and powerful machines. Many of them still exist in Vestra, and even a few in active use, such as those that power their war machines they've reverse engineered from the buried relics of their land.
These crystals hold a vast amount of power locked within, and can power large machines for quite some time before the crystals have to be replaced. In addition, the power the hold can be used as fuel for spellcasting as well, though the art has been lost within the Riftgrounds themselves. These spells of old were extremely powerful, and though the arcane power that permeates the world since the creation of the moon allow for similar magics without the need for the crystals, some of the mightiest feats these crystals allowed have yet to be replicated by modern magic.
They still serve a vital roles however in powering machines, as most of those are unable to draw enough power from the latent energy in the world and require a more direct source. These machines range from complex locking mechanisms to planar gates, giant war machines, and even ships that can fly in the air.
There are legends even of an ancient ship powered by these crystals that could pierce through the veil into other worlds, traversing across all reality with unprecedented ease.
While most of the remaining crystals, outside of Aterius itself, reside buried in Vestra or in its research centers, the Moon Elves have found a few of them, leading their own branch of research into the exact properties of these crystals they see as almost sacred, hoping to find more inside into the moon that is so central to their society.

Aterius crystals are mostly white at first glance, but as the light catches them they shine with a variety of different colors: the same spectrum found in the moon. Though they come in different shapes, they tend towards long spindly formations most commonly.
