Claren

The city of Claren is a large city situated on the southern edge of Vestra, on the coast towards the country's east side. It's one of the older Vestran towns, standing since the Abberand, though it only narrowly survived that cataclysmic event.
Before the Abberations invaded from the sea, Claren was a smaller, quieter port town, just a fishery and a place for boats to dock on long journeys down the coast. However, after the towns to their west started falling, and word of the aberrant assault reached them, they began preparing. Mostly a militia force at first, though the were able to recruit some prominent adventurers from the time to their aid, and hold against all odds against the first wave of attacks.
This earned the town quite a reputation, as only the larger cities much further west had managed to hold any notable assaults. This drew some refugees from some of the other ruined towns to Claren, and with their increasing numbers, as well as resources sent from northern parts of Vestra as aid, the town began to grow and be fortified. It continued to grow and gain both notability and reinforcements until it became a sort of makeshift coastal fortress.
The attacks kept coming until the Abberand finally came to an end, and in the final, most brutal of assaults, the town was almost completely decimated. Many of the people were saved however, held up in the final layer of their fortifications. They began to rebuild, and after the feat the town had managed to perform, and as one of the few left on the southeastern coast of Vestra, it grew far larger than it had been in its past.
In the centuries since, it has because one of the foremost cities in Vestra, eventually becoming the home of one of the Five Rings when the country of Vestra was officially joined.
