Gilnweave

Gilnweave is a type of fiber drawn from the gilnweed plant, which is then typically worked into thread and then fabric. It's very commonly used for river elf clothing, as the plant as most often found growing on the banks of temperate rivers and in marshlands.   The process of extracting the threads from the plant and working then into a solid piece of fabric is relatively lengthy, particularly because the plant fibers are rather delicate during the extraction process before being treated. This makes it more expensive than some other forms of cloth, though its common enough among river elven communities and their frequent trades routes to keep the prices from climbing too high.   While its primary use is clothing, some smaller river ships have used in for their sales, though thicker clothes remain more common. It isn't suitable for large ocean faring ships, as the thinning cloth doesn't catch wind well enough to create the pull they require. Other than this, it is sometimes dyed and used as curtains and other decorative purpose among some river elf communinites.

Properties

Material Characteristics

Gilnweave is a strong and lightweight fabric, sturdy enough to be difficult to tear without a cutting implement, even when woven into thin sheets of cloth. This makes for lightweight and thinner than typical clothing.

Distribution

Trade & Market

Since gilnweave make light and cool clothing, it is well suited to the fleet-footed river elves, and also sells quite well to the westrunners who live in some of the hotter parts of the Riftgrounds. While many river elves keep to themselves in their relatively small communities, some merchants among them have made a decent profit selling their clothing in the west and south.   It's fairly rare and exoctic in more distant areas just as the east-northern regions, though the climate keeps there from being much demand in such areas. Southsea is perhaps where it fetches the highest price, as it is warm enough to create some demand and rather distant from the typical trade routes of the river elves.
