Mark of the Eye

A simple silver ring with a small emerald set into it, this commonplace piece of jewelry looks entirely unremarkable to most, beyond holding a meager value. However, to members of the Seventh Eye, it serves as a symbol.   Nearly all of these members wear these rings, the gem meant to represent an eye, and they serve as a way to help identify each other. More notably, they will sometimes leave one on a table at a tavern or in a room in an inn as a message to another member that they want to meet.   While not a completely secret or illegal organization, the Seventh Eye keeps to themselves by nature, and in many parts of the world can benefit quite greatly from secrecy. As such, they have developed a few secretive ways to send inconspicuous messages to one another. Of these, the Mark of the Eye is the most commonly used, as a simple set up of meeting allows any further information to be far more easily exchanged than it could be by trying to leave the entire message in coded symbols.   There have been a few instances of the left items being attempted to be stolen, but inns and taverns are often well enough guarded that theft of a ring, deliberately left in plain view on empty tables, would not typically go unnoticed. Besides which, the palcer of the Mark always stays nearby, watching and waiting for another member to find it, so they can easily spot a thief.   If a proper member, one is to, rather than simply taking the ring, tap their own ringed finger against the empty table three times. This is the signal to the member who placed the ring to come seek them out and meet when a private opportunity arises.
